Fortnite Battle Royale is a free-to-play multiplayer game that grew in popularity due to its unique combination of the adventurous battle royale theme with a freeform building technique. Developed in 2017 by Epic Games, the action-adventure game will keep you hooked due to its distinctive features and playstyle.
Graphics and Sound - 4/5
The game presents fantastic graphics with simply drawn characters and straightforward backgrounds. It also has a vivid color scheme, and you can easily note how it matches the game’s environment. The visuals perfectly complement the gameplay. Fortnite Battle Royale’s sound is heavily dependent on the device hardware. However, the developers dealt with this issue by simply using onscreen prompts to show both the direction and intensity of the sound produced.
Gameplay - 5/5
The gameplay involves you joining 99 other players being dropped from a flying bus onto a vast map. The aim of the game is for you to go around scavenging resources such as weapons and building materials while watching out not to be caught in the storm that is contracting the map. The contraction encourages confrontation between players, and at the end of it, one person or team is left standing. You can choose to play alone or squad up with friends.
Controls - 4/5
Fortnite Battle Royale for the mobile platform uses the touchscreen for controls and performs sufficiently well. The controls are extraordinarily intuitive and easy to use with the left end of the screen enabled to control movement. There is a similar space on the right end, which is used for aiming.
It is notable though how the touchscreen is not as responsive as other controllers such as a mouse and keyboard. This makes it distinctly cumbersome to aim precisely at nippy targets, lowering your chances against players on another platform.
Since Fortnite Battle Royale is intense and action-packed, an extra layer of challenge in controls is added only to make the gameplay experience more positive.
Lasting Appeal - 4/5
The game’s lasting appeal is high, mainly because of the challenging yet absorbing nature of the gameplay. Even if you happen to be the last man standing in the game, the high from beating 99 other players will still be as strong if you manage to accomplish it once more, and the desire to reinforce your bragging rights will entice you to play again.
If you are used to Fortnite Battle Royale on other platforms with bigger screens and more precise controls, then the adaptation might take longer than it would for someone playing for the first time. However, once you get past the controls limitations, the diverse obstacles brought about by competing with 99 other people will be enticing. The spectating feature will help you learn and understand the game better and improve.
Epic Games have done a marvelous job recreating the whole Fortnite Battle Royale experience on mobile while still maintaining its fantastic look. Fortnite has no boundaries: you can play with friends even if they launched their game on a different platform. The combination of all these traits results in an exceptional experience worth trying.
